  Discouraging JWs From Calling

  i was reading an anti cult reddit post where a woman (ex mormon) was trying her hardest to discourage the mormons from visiting her and trying to convert her back.

  a few others chimed in about their various methods (coming to the door naked, pretending to be practicing black magic, etc.

  ) which they claimed would have the mormons and jws running away as fast as possible.. somehow, i doubt it.

  i held out the magazines--he looked at them, swore and slammed the door in my face. Strange that.

  if they are youngsters i just say i'm not interested and say bye. Older ones i sometimes chat to--and let slip i used to be a JW--and see if they bite.

  there are the rare exceptions.

  they are more known for their fear mongering and doomsday scenarios where "the dead shall come to be as manure on the surface of the ground from one end of the earth clear to the other".

  i remember in the final congregation i was in--during the early 70, there was one brother--married with 2 young kids. He refrained from working, having a selection of illnesses peculiar to jehovahs witnesses.

  He sat in the audience--with an idiot grin in his face--and would burst in to laughter at anything the speaker said. He was a fine JW.

  i was once was told by an jw elder it was a rule not to gossip or swear as it could harm someone, but i guess the new light allows this.

  it was bad enough when they were calling people worldly now i heard a jw gossiping about someone and it was mean.just another reason i would never go back.

  why is it that fashions are assumed to have stayed the same in heaven for thousands of years?

  you'd think that after wearing the same boring robe for eternity you'd crave something different.

  yet no, angels and god are still wearing the same white onesie they had when they vacationed on earth with abraham.

  "Where is mom?. He said her ashes were in the backyard lawnmower shed."

  this business of saving a cremated persons " ashes" ( plus coffin wood ash and crematorium sweepings ) really creeps me out.

  When a dead person is buried does someone chop off one of the thumbs for the bereaved to keep ?

  When my ( late ) father moved into a care home, i cleared his house out and sold it. I found a cardboard box containing a wooden casket with my mothers ashes in it. Ive still got it in my garden shed somewhere.

  After my fathers cremation i never went to collect the ashes. He lives on in my memory.
